DC10 Closing

26th June, 2008

Written by: Karen Brodie ( karen).

After the official start of the summer season on Ibiza island, it has been announced that the Spanish Government will be closing  DC10 for 57 days.  With the news of DC10 closing spreading, it has definitely put a damper on the plans of many party goers expected to visit the island this summer.

As many of you may recall, DC10 was was ordered to close last summer for 60 days.  The Goverment has declared the need to serve their "remaining 57 days.  Andrea Pelino of Circo Loco, was interviewed by Ibiza voice about the recent announcement.

"I feel like DC10 is the monster of the island, like they hate us. I don't understand why this always happens," he says, audibly upset. The decision appears timed to cause maximum havoc to Circo Loco. One-hundred plus security, staff and DJs have been contracted for the summer. Fans and friends have booked their holidays to Ibiza. All eyes are on the island and the message that will be flashed around the world tomorrow will - undoubtedly - be "drug den DC10 shut down."

"We bring people to the island all year round. People charter jets to fly to our New Year's Day party."

"The club was open all winter, and we were talking to the authorities, asking for their decision. You have to ask why they chose to shut us now,"Andrea comments. He is quietly angry, too. "We bring people to the island all year round. People charter jets to fly to our New Year's Day party. Circo Loco is around the world now. We work with great artists like Bjork and Massive Attack, we have parties in the best clubs all over the world. But here we're demonised."

With the announcement of one of the largest clubs on the island closing again for the majority of the summer, it brings back the concern, that the days of the party island are coming to an end.  The Spanish Government continues to increase and enforce laws that are making it harder for the clubs to remain open.

Hopefully in the coming days they will decide to reopen the club.  In the meantime, if you would like to do your part and voice your opinion or concern, please use one of the following means below.
